Langtang Region is narrow valley situated at the boarder of the Tibet. It is the closest trekking destination to Kathmandu, allowing easy access to one of most beautiful part in Nepal. Langtang region treks combine wonderful cultural villages, Heritage sites trek and spectacular Langtang village with the sacred Gosainkunda and Helambu valley.
Langtang region protects more than 70 glaciers of different sizes including the Langtang and Ganesh Himal mountain ranges and high altitude lakes – Gosainkunda, Parvatikunda, Bhairavkunda, Dudhkunda etc. Langtang Lirung (7,246m), Dorje Lakpa (6,966m), Morimoto (6,750m), Dragmarpo Ri (6,578m), Kimshung (6,500m), Langshisha Ri (6,427m), Ganchempo (6,387m), Naya Kanga (5,846m) and Yala Peak (4,788m) are the major peaks in Langtang region.
Langtang National Park is second largest national park in Nepal. About 25 percent of area is covered by forest. The region is good example of bio-diversity and contains variety of climatic zones from subtropical to alpine. The park is home to around 3,000 species of flowering plands including oaks, blue pine and various types of rhododendron. Likewise, the region is flourished with various types of medicinal plants. About 32 mammals and 283 species of birds are found in the park which includes Himalayan black bear, clouded leopard, musk deer, snow leopard, wild dog and more.
The region is largely inhabited by Tibetan and Tamang community. The holy lake of Gosainkunda and snowy peaks like – Langtang Ri, Langtang Lirung, Dorge Lhakpa Peak and others offer huge beauty to the trek. This relatively less trekked region has great natural beauty ranging from evergreen forests, cascading waterfalls and turbulent streams to sub-alpine grasslands and closer, the peak profile of Langtang Lirung (7,246m), Gang Chhenpo (6,388m), Lenpo Gang (7,083m), Dorje Lakpa (6,990m). Himalayan explorer, Bill Tillman once said that Langtang is one of the most beautiful valleys in the world.
