Safe Trip Plan
Langtang valley trek is one of the most rewarding short treks available in Nepal. It is the third most popular trekking region in Nepal after Everest and Annapurna region. This trek is easily accessible and offers a great experience of authentic culture, stunning natural beauty, and dramatic mountain vistas filled with impressive glaciers, waterfalls, and diverse flora and fauna. This teahouse mode trek is ideal for “beginners and families” where one can receive intriguing hospitality.
Langtang Valley, “the well-kept secret” is often dubbed the trekker’s paradise. The age-old and ornate cultural heritage sites, traditionally decorated wooden windows and cultural dance festivals are very less explored to date. The region is dominantly inhabited by Tibetan-influenced Tamang and Sherpa communities. Besides cultural magnificence, one can have the opportunity to witness amazing Himalayan vistas, dense alpine forests, a variety of bird species, Torrent Rivers, and isolated villages. Look out for amazing Musk Deer, Pika, monkeys, and the colorful Danphe, the national bird of Nepal.
Langtang valley trek starts with a 7 – 8 hours switchback drive via the magnificent mid-hill forest and terraced farming country to Syabrubensi. The trekking trail follows the dense forest of rhododendron and bamboo and rises gradually which allows proper assistance with Langtang Valley Trek acclimatization. As the trail starts gaining elevation and approaches Kyangjin Gompa (3,870m), the forest and terraced fields give way to dwarf vegetation and rocky barren landscapes. An exploration and acclimatization are set at Kyangjin with an amazing hike to Tserko Ri. Here we get the exceptional scenery of Langtang Lirung (7,227mm) and parades of glistering peaks and glaciers. We also explore cheese factories supported by the Swiss Government.
The east-west running valley is the site of some spectacular alpine scenery as well as being a great place to meet unique people. A minimum of one week is required but trekkers are well-advised to add a few extra days for acclimatization and side trips in the valley. Along our journey, you will walk through the Langtang National Park. Although wildlife is never easy to spot in a forest setting, here you get the chance to see some interesting animals and birds with a Langtang valley trek permit. Among those found in the park are monkeys, musk deer, Pika, and the national bird of Nepal, the colorful Danphe. The trek is best started either from Dhunche or from Syabru Besi.
The Langtang Valley Trek is relatively easy and is often far less busy than other popular treks in the Everest and Annapurna region. The trek can be done in seven days, however, the langtang valley trek distance usually takes 10 to 12 days to reach Langtang trek altitude of 3800m.
The local people are mostly of Tibetan origin and, according to legend, the valley was first discovered by a lama – a teacher of Tibetan Buddhism – who was pursuing a runaway yak. “Lang” is Tibetan for “lama” while “tang” is Tibetan for “follow.”
Langtang region is the 3rd most popular trekking region in Nepal besides Everest and Annapurna. This Langtang trek map is close to Kathmandu's start of the hike and has its border with Tibet. Langtang valley – still the best-kept secret in the Himalayas – is trekkers' paradise. Langtang trekking in Nepal offers an opportunity to explore the rich mingled cultural heritage of the Tibetan origin of the Lama and Tamang people, ornately carved wooden windows, lively dance festivals, and skilled weaving traditions.
