Important documents and items for Everest Base Camp Trek

  • Valid passport, 2 extra passport size photos, airline tickets
  • Photocopies of Passport, visa form (easily obtained at Kathmandu airport), proof of insurance
  • Dollars, Pounds, Euros or Nepal currency in cash to buy Nepalese visa at Kathmandu airport, for paying restaurant and hotels or shopping
  • Credit cards, Bank/ATM/Cash Machine cards

Clothes

  • 2 pair of short sleeved shirts
  • 2 long sleeved thermal tops (1 for sleeping)
  • 2 thermal pants (1 for sleeping)
  • 2-3 trekking trousers
  • Undergarment (disposables)
  • Fleece Jacket
  • Down Jacket
  • Waterproof outer and windbreaker

Toiletries

  • Shampoo (bring minimal as you get very less chance to shower throughout the trek)
  • Body soap
  • Sunblock (ideally spray type, minimally SPF 50 and above)
  • Facial wash
  • Moisturizer (Both body and face. Your skin gets really dry in high Himalayas)
  • Tooth Paste
  • Tooth Brush
  • Foot Powder
  • Small towel
  • Toilet paper
  • Limb balm (best with SPF protection)

Gear

  • -10 to-20 degree sleeping bag (provided by travel agency)
  • Fleece sleeping back liner
  • Trekking shoes (sturdy soles, ankle support and waterproof as there are few rivers to cross)
  • Gaiter (winter only), optional, low” ankle high version
  • Trekking poles (can be bought at Thamel, Kathmandu at $ 8 - $10
  • Headlight (useful to navigate around the teahouse at night or ideal to admire the starry night)
  • UV protected sunglass
  • Swiss Army Knife (for any other emergencies)

Rucksack and Travel Bags

  • 1 medium rucksack (50 – 70 liters/3,000 – 4500 cubic inches, can be sued for an airplane carryon)
  • 1 large duffle bag
  • Small backpack to carry your valuable stuffs (should have good shoulder padding)
  • Padlocks for duffle bags
  • 2 waterproof rucksack covers

Miscellaneous

  • Thermal Flask ( highly useful at higher altitude when the temperature is below freezing level)
  • Slipper (very useful to walk around the teahouse and toilet, also a great way to give your feet break from trekking shoes)
  • Medication (nauseous pills, Diamox (altitude sickness), Ibuprofen/Panadol, flu, diarrohea pill, lozenges, handiplast, bandage and first aid kit)
