Overview And Highlights

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is ideal for those trekkers who wish to enjoy comfortable altitude trekking in Nepal beneath the high mountains with an opportunity to observe local culture and tradition. Poon Hill Trek, also known as Annapurna sunrise trek or Annapurna Panorama Trek, is the perfect introduction to rural Nepal and the Himalayan range. This trek is ideal for families and beginners who wish to experience the Himalayas in a short time; requiring moderate fitness. Also knowns as a naturalist’s paradise, this trek unfolds the dramatic profile of some of the highest mountains in the Annapurna range.

Starting from a comfortable altitude of 1100m, we follow the well-trodden routes through the forested route of pokhara to poon hill trek and picturesque Himalaya settlement of Tikhedhunga, Ulleri, and Ghorepani. Hindu- Brahman and Chhetri and Buddhist farmers along with Magars and Gurungs (Tibeto-Berman groups) are major inhabitants of the region. Magar and Gurung are known for their bravery in British Gurkha Battalion.

The fascinating culture and architecture of these community and the chances to experience the hospitality adds more charm to this trek. Whilst warm Ghorepani poon hill trek cost panders to the needs of the trekkers who visit Poon Hill; an afternoon trip in Ghorepani offers an opportunity to explore the lifestyle and culture of the Gurung community in poon hill trek distance of 176 KM

.A pre-dawn hike from Ghorepani to Nepal’s most visited physical landmark: the grassy summit of Poon Hill (3,210m) is the major highlight of the trek on the Ghorepani poon hill trek map. It offers a magnificent view of sunrise and a tantalizing view of Dhaulagiri I, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, the scared Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Manaslu in Ghorepani to poon hill distance

Highlights of Ghorepani Poon hill trek

  • Panoramic views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Machhapucchre, Hiunchuli, Nilgiri, and Mardi can be seen from Poon Hill, which offers breathtaking sunrise and sunset views of the Himalayan range.

  • Ulleri village's well-known stone stairs to ascend and descend.

  • Rhododendron forests, different flora and fauna

  • Suspension bridges, waterfalls

  • Gurung settlements

Best season for the ghorepani poon hill trek

Spring season

Due to the comparatively low altitude of this climb, the days from March to May are warm and sunny. A t-shirt will be all you need to wear. However, keep in mind that the mornings and evenings require warmer attire. During this season, the vegetation is in full flower. Rhododendrons, Nepal's national flower, are a focal point of vibrant color. When people think back on their treks, they invariably mention the rhododendrons in Nepal at this time of year. Between 10 and 24 degrees Celsius will be the range of temperatures, with Poon Hill itself experiencing freezing temperatures. Every single day, the sky is clear. You can trek in just a t-shirt throughout the day, but the mornings and evenings can get chilly and call for warm clothing. You get the sensation that you are in heaven on Earth when you look at the gorgeous rhododendron woodland in bloom.

Monsoon season

The vegetation is well-cleaned after a night of rain, and the snow-capped mountains are breathtaking in the morning. There will be times when the mountains will hide from view behind a veil of rain, but when they do emerge, it will be even more spectacular. Teahouses are open at this time, and since fewer trekkers are present, finding a place to stay is not an issue. Even better than the mentioned pricing can be available to you. Even while it may be a little less frigid at the upper elevations of this excursion, temperatures are not all that different from those of spring. Expect a range of temperatures between 9 and 24 oC, with drops during showers.

Despite the fact that it is the rainy season, the area experiences long periods without rain. This is a fantastic time to go trekking if you enjoy a little rain. In the Himalayas, sipping on a hot beverage while observing rain fall outside is an incredible experience. However, there are certain disadvantages to trekking now. A list of them is below.

Autumn season

The ideal time to trek in the Himalayas is probably right now. The paths will consequently be busier. So once more, balance the favourable weather and natural beauty with the knowledge that there will be more hikers nearby and lodging is expensive. Also keep in mind that this is Nepal's primary holiday season, comparable to Christmas and New Year's in the West. Therefore, please make sure you reserve a porter and/or guide in advance if you intend to travel with them. Staff for trekking are overworked since the festival season and peak trekking season coincide.

September is the first month of the autumnal season following the end of the monsoon season. Early in September, there is a light rain as the monsoon prepares to leave. However, the rain during the monsoon season removes all of the dust from the vegetation and the terrain. There is foliage everywhere in the autumn. Streams, waterfalls, rivers, ponds, and lakes are replenished after the monsoon season. The ideal temperature is the main advantage of autumn. Early in the morning and late at night, when the minimum temperature is -10°C, are the coldest times of the day.

Winter season

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Walk has open routes all year round because it is a low-altitude trek (in comparison to other Himalayas treks). You must wear warm clothing because it will get below freezing in the mornings and evenings.

Daytime highs of roughly 15 °C are still possible at lower altitudes, which are ideal for trekking. Generally speaking, it doesn't rain at this time of year. There won't be as many hikers on the trail, and teahouse lodging won't be a problem. Additionally, all teahouses have cozy fires that are perfect for relaxing by in the evening while enjoying a hot beverage. For those who don't mind a bit cold, this is a perfect time to hike because the mountain scenery will be breathtaking in the chilly air.

Short description of Ghorepani poon hill itinerary

The Ghorepani Poon hill trek is the most leisurely trek in the Annapurna sanctuary. It is suitable for all ages of people, even beginners. This trek has fewer difficulties and fewer challenges. It's a fantastic route to walk for novice hikers and those who just want to sample Nepali hiking. You'll get stunning views of the valley, the Himalayas, and the terraced fields below as you take off for Kathmandu. After clearing customs, a representative will be there to help you check into your hotel and navigate the initial cultural shock of Kathmandu's twisting, winding streets. On the next day early in the morning we explore the UNESCO world heritage sites, including Boudhanath Stupa, the largest stupa in the world, and Pashupatinath Temple, the holiest temple in the world and situated on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. Square Patan Durbar (oldest city in Kathmandu valley with ancient culture and tradition). The Durbar Square, the Krishna Temple, the Kumbheswore Temple, the Golden Temple, and many other sites are included in the sightseeing tour.

The next day, you'll be transported to the domestic airport in Kathmandu, where you'll take a quick flight to Pokhara and then a transfer to Nayapul, where the hike starts! Your first track will ascend through rice, maize, and millet farms that are rich in fertility. We trek to Birethanti – a large riverside village located at the confluence of the Modi and Bhurungdi Kholas. Next, we climb above to Sudame along the off-road and then rise gradually up to the side of the valley to Tikhedhunga. Cross a suspension metal bridge to make the steep climb on a stone staircase to reach the village of Ulleri. It is an amazing landscape of the valley floor which exhibits the amazing view of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. Overnight at teahouse in Ulleri.

Get up early and have breakfast at your teahouse before you start your difficult ascent to Ulleri. The journey starts with a 3,767-step stone staircase that ascends the ridgeline and eventually takes you across arable fields. The remainder of the trail passes through a picturesque area with blossoming rhododendron blossoms and old oak woodlands once you've finished this part. Uphill travel continues until you reach Nangethanti, where you will stop for lunch. The word "rest house" in Nepali is thanti; keep in mind that the trail may be covered in snow during the winter. Work off your meal and keep going up until you reach Ghorepani, a hamlet known for its breathtaking surroundings and a favourite among trekkers.

We climb 45 minutes uphill after an early-morning meal to get to Poon Hill (3210m/10530ft). The rhododendron forest is fascinatingly visible from this lovely uphill walk. We receive a clear glimpse of the rising sun over the high Himalayas as we ascend to Poon Hill's grassy crest, along with a broad panorama that includes Dolpo's far western region, Mt. Dhaulagiri, the Annapurnas, Machhapuchhre (the fish tail), and Manaslu. After experiencing some surreal moments on Poon Hill, we make the descent to Nayapul. Here, we board a private car for the brief trip back to Pokhara.

You might have time to do some sightseeing, relax, or visit one of Pokhara's coffee shops after breakfast. You'll be picked up from your hotel and driven to the domestic airport in time to board your aircraft back to Kathmandu, which departs around 1.5 hours later. You will be driven to your hotel in Kathmandu, where you can spend the remainder of the afternoon and evening at your own. Take a rickshaw, bicycle, or foot tour of Kathmandu's streets to view anything you might have missed at the start of your stay or to look for souvenirs.

In your last day in Nepal! Take some breakfast and if you wish, you can catch last-minute shopping in Kathmandu. Our airport representative will transfer you to the airport with plenty of time before your flight home.

Traveller Useful Information

The steep terrain, high height, and poor amenities of the Annapurna Poon Hill trip are what give it a moderate difficulty rating. This trek requires ordinary fitness and a strong appreciation for the highlands. Additionally, trekkers should have a healthy lifestyle, be moderately active, and engage in regular training at least three months before the journey to increase their stamina and endurance. The Ghorepani Poon Hill trekking paths meander through picturesque mountain scenery, rhododendron forests, cascades waterfalls, and characteristic Gurung settlements on an undemanding route. When you catch the beautiful glimpse of the gleaming snow-capped mountains and stunning surroundings, you will forget about the difficulty of the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek.

Distance

The Poon Hill Trek is a quick hike for travelers with constrained time in Nepal. Due of its proximity to Pokhara and Kathmandu, it is a great choice. Poon Hill is roughly 272 kilometers from Kathmandu. The walk covers a distance of around 38 kilometers and is a circuit trekking trail that starts in Nayapul and ends there. The journey lasts 10 days and takes you via Tikhedunga, Ulleri, and Ghorepani villages.

The portion of the trail from Tikhedunga to Ulleri that involves climbing steps is particularly difficult; when trekking from Tikhedhunga to Ulleri, you will cross the fabled 3200 stairs. Up till Ghorepani, the trail typically travels through rhododendron and oak woodlands. To get to Poon Hill early in the morning to see the sunrise over the Himalayan peaks, it takes about an hour or so of difficult ascent from Ghorepani.

Duration

Despite the 4-day recommended itinerary, Poonhill can be hiked in three days from the Nayapul starting point. This 10-day hike passes through the towns of Tikhedunga, Ulleri, and Ghorepani before returning to Nayapul by the same route.

For the first two days, you will walk for a total of 4-5 hours. Additionally, the final day is a 6-7 hour trek. Expect to walk about 14–15 hours total on this excursion. It's not difficult to walk for 4-5 hours per day. The pathways are very lovely, which makes the hike simple. If you want a lengthier option, you should choose the nine-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek from Pokhara, which includes a stop at Poon Hill.

Altitude

Any hike must take into account altitude and its effects. The difficulties presented by height are, however, almost nonexistent on this walk. This journey's highest point is Poonhill, which is 3210 meters/10532 feet) tall.

On the day of the climb to Poon Hill, you enjoy the sunrise on Poon Hill and then descend too low, so the problem does not get worse. However, some trekkers have some symptoms of acute mountain sickness after the 3,000-meter mark. Altitude sickness is nearly never a problem on this climb. Some of the common symptoms of altitude sickness are vomiting, headaches, dizziness, tiredness, nausea, and so on. You will primarily travel uphill on your treks while taking in Poon Hill's magnificent views of the majestic Himalayas. The trail can be challenging but not dangerous because it is occasionally steep and the altitude is low. There won't be many issues with altitude.

Flight delays

Some people could have demanding trekking schedules. Therefore, if your domestic flight is delayed, you could run into some problems. There are only a few domestic flights each day. Additionally, as we already indicated, the weather continues to be pretty unpredictable. Therefore, you should be prepared for flight cancellation or even a delay before your expedition.

Accommodation

You often stay in teahouses or small lodges on the walk, which are relatively basic and provide standard amenities. You will get a twin-sharing bedroom with a mattress, blanket, pillow, table, and two chairs in it.

The majority of them have attached facilities, while some at the higher elevations have shared restrooms. Those who desire opulent amenities will find the voyage uncomfortable. The teahouses and trails fill up during the busy seasons. The majority of teahouses are booked solid or reserved.

There are lodges and guesthouses with superior amenities in locations like Ulleri and Ghorepani. Wifi and hot showers are amenities that are available at practically every tea shop or lodge. Overall, the walk is comfortable with regard to lodging. Since the local guides have already filled the accommodations for their groups, getting the facilities may be challenging if you are traveling alone.

You will need to bring extra supplies if you plan to hike Poonhill in the winter. When a frigid breeze penetrates through tiny windows or gaps in the doors, a quilt or blanket alone won't keep you warm. Therefore, it is advised to have a spare sleeping bag or blanket when hiking from November to February.

Weather

Poon Hill Trek has good weather all year long. The optimal seasons for this walk are in the spring and fall. The superb visibility and cool, trekking-friendly climate add to the enjoyment.

Leeches may be present on the paths throughout the summer and monsoon seasons. Although there is reduced visibility, there is a potential for sunny mornings because it typically rains at night.

The winters don't get too cold. Given prior winter journeys to base camps, the lowest temperature throughout the winter is a tolerable -4 degrees. You can do the walk at any time of year if you have the right attire and equipment.

Guide or porter

The route is made easier by trekking to Poonhill with a guide and porter, though. In addition to helping you find your way, guides can also direct you to the best hotels and restaurants. They have superior emergency communications for evacuation services. You are advised to trek with knowledgeable guides to share your concerns and experiences and to lessen the difficulties.

Stay hydrated

Dehydration is the main threat on any journey, so drink plenty of water the entire way. In the mountains, you can easily become dehydrated, which can quickly result in altitude sickness.

Packing list

You will spend a few days on vacation walking nonstop. Thus, finding a pair of comfy trekking boots is essential. Ensure If the shoes are new, make sure they are comfortable to walk in and that they fit correctly before wearing them on the hike. On the off event that you don't, they can then create foot pain that makes walking difficult. Don't bring needless items that could be a burden.

Physical activities

Every trip you take must be well prepared for. Therefore, before beginning your expedition, engage in some physical activities such as swimming, day walks, and daily exercise. Your stamina and endurance will increase with adequate bodily conditioning. As a result, the trek's stress won't be felt by you.

Right season

A quick and family-friendly hike that can be planned at any time of the year is the Poonhill Trek. Choosing the optimal season for trekking, though, is advised. During the trekking season, you will have a beautiful view of the valley and the mountains. Off-season trekking can be dangerous. You may have monsoon rains that are particularly heavy and winter snowfall.

You need two permits for the Ghorepani hill trek Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and a Trekkers Information Management System ( TIMS ).

Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)

The National Trust for Nature Conservation's (NTNC) biggest project is the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), which was started in 1986. (NTNC). Additionally, it is Nepal's first conservation area and biggest protected area. With a population of over 100,000 people, it has a 7,629 km2 area and is home to many diverse cultural and linguistic communities. ACAP is home to 1,226 species of flowering plants, 105 animal species, 518 bird species, 40 reptile species, and 23 amphibian species.

ACAP is the most well-liked trekking destination in the nation, drawing the majority of all trekkers there thanks to its natural and cultural attractions. Over time, the local economy's tourism industry has become one of the most significant industries.

To accommodate the thousands of trekkers, pilgrims, and workers who serve them, there are more than 1,000 lodges, teashops, and hundreds of other ancillary services. Naturally, all of this has an effect on this breathtaking setting. According to estimates, a typical trekking party of 15 people produces roughly 15 kilos of non-biodegradable and non-burnable trash during the course of a 10-day journey, amounting to tons of waste per year in mountainous areas.

ACAP was established with the purpose of "achieving a sustained balance between nature conservation and socio-economic improvement in the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA) in order to assist the National Trust for Nature Conservation in achieving its goal" in order to better manage this, protect the environment, respect the local people's traditional livelihoods, and ensure that wildlife is not harmed.

Trekkers Information Management System ( TIMS )

For your personal protection, you need a Trekkers Information Management Systems (TIMS) Permit. You can register on the system by displaying your TIMS card at the checkpoints along the trails. This is important in case you get lost or have an accident while hiking. For all treks in Nepal, you must have a TIMS card as a basic trekking permit. For all treks in Nepal, you must have a TIMS card as a basic trekking permit. Because all crucial information on trekkers and their routes is kept in a computerized database management system for their safety and security, TIMS is required. Using Authentic Information Service, the information is needed to carry out rescue efforts and search operations in the event of emergencies like natural disasters and other mishaps. For all parties involved, including tourism organizations, tour operators, research institutes, government operators, diplomatic missions, and others, all the data obtained from the system is required.

After completing the TIMS application form, free individual trekkers can get TIMS cards from the Nepal Tourism Board offices in Kathmandu and Pokhara, the TAAN Secretariat in Maligaon, and the TAAN Pokhara Secretariat in Pokhara.
