But, sometimes in an emergency case of air traffic, we might land in Ramecchap airport because Lukla airport is the only airport destination available for the EBC Trek. The final destination is the base camp of Mt. Everest, where all climbers start to scale the world’s highest peaks. It lies at an altitude of around 2850m with the shortest runway of 527m long. The weather in Lukla changes rapidly and can be unpredictable, often causing delays or the cancellation of flights. Many trekkers say the flight to Lukla is as thrilling and memorable as the trek.
Namche Bazaar is like the heartbeat of the Everest region, which is also known as the staging point for expeditions to Everest and other Himalayan peaks. This town is built on a steep hillside, shaped like a natural amphitheater. It’s also a place where you can experience Sherpa culture with museums, monasteries, and friendly locals. Here, Saturday is a market day, where traders from nearby villages come to sell goods, which is how this place is named, as the Bazaar. It is a town in Solukhumbu that sells everything from Tibetan artifacts to trekking equipment and everything you might need during the trip.
Dingboche is a quiet and scenic Sherpa village tucked high up in the Himalayas in the Khumbu region of northeastern Nepal. We can visit Khumbu Icefall, Tengboche Monastery, and explore Mani Wall at Dingboche. Unlike Namche, Dingboche feels more peaceful and open due to its high altitude of 4360m. There are stone-walled fields all around, which protect crops from the strong mountain winds, which also gives the place a very raw and authentic mountain vibe. It is where the mountains start to feel more remote, and the adventure gets more serious, but also more beautiful.
Sagarmatha National Park is a protected area in the Khumbu region of Nepal, which is home to wildlife and the world’s highest mountains. It was established in 1976 and is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The park stretches from about 2,800m to over 8800m, which covers a massive range of ecosystems. It is an exceptional area with high mountains, glaciers, and deep valleys. We can find various rare species, such as the Snow leopard and the Lesser panda. We can also spot wildlife like Himalayan thar, musk deer, and various birds like Himalayan monals. The presence of the Sherpas, with their unique culture and some monasteries, makes these areas more interesting. Sagarmatha National Park is more than just a trekking route, it’s a place of deep natural beauty, spiritual energy, and raw Himalayan power. Every step inside it feels like part of something bigger, adventurous, and one of the beautiful and memorable journeys.
Kala Patthar isn’t a village; it’s a notable landmark located on the south ridge of Pumori in the Nepali Himalayas near Gorakshep, sitting at an elevation of about 5545m. Even though it’s not famous itself, it’s the viewpoint that gives the best view of Mount Everest, since the peak of Everest is hidden from Everest Base Camp. Trekkers usually hike to Kala Patthar early in the morning or at sunrise. It is considered the true highlight of the EBC trek for those wanting a close-up view of the world’s highest mountain.
The first day, after an early morning flight to Lukla, excitement reaches at peak as you land at one of the world’s most thrilling airports with the shortest runway. Begin your trek through forests and traditional villages along the Dudh Koshi River before reaching Phakding.
The second day, trials take you across several suspension bridges, including the famous Hillary Bridge. After a steep climb through forests, you arrive at Namche Bazaar, the vibrant ancient Sherpa town known as the gateway to Everest and various Himalayas. First altitude gain through suspension bridges and lush pine trees. Namche has the best cafes and bakeries in between, and ending the day with an overnight stay in Sherpa Hospitality
And the third day, spend the day exploring the Namche Bazaar, visiting the Sherpa Museum, and hiking up to Everest View Hotel for a stunning panorama of various Himalayas like Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. This day helps yourself with acclimatization. And an overnight stay at Warm Sherpa Hospitality.
And after that the fourth day, a Scenic trek with views of Thamserku and Ama Dablam. Visit the famous Tengboche Monastery, a 20-foot sculpture of various poses of Buddha, a spiritual hub of the Khumbu region, often surrounded by prayer chants and colorful prayer flags. Ending the day and Overnight stay in a peaceful environment
Then the fifth day, the trek begins with the trail descending through forests before crossing the Imja River. It is only a short distance that we will most likely complete in the afternoon. You’ll gradually rise above the treeline and enter the windswept alpine zone with dramatic views of Island Peak and cross a suspension bridge 5-6 hours of hike, leaving Pine trees behind for scenic view of alpine terrain and an epic view of Ama Dablam. Ending the day and resting at Dingboche
The sixth day, use this day to rest and acclimate. Short hikes up Nangkartsang Gompa and Chukkung Valley offer spectacular views of mountain Peaks. Chukkung has several lodges and is the most popular spot for those climbing Island Peak. Key acclimatization day crucial for safety. Hydrate, rest, and a short walk ending the day with an overnight stay in a sound environment.
Then the seventh day, the terrain becomes rockier as you approach the glacial moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and passing through the boulder-strewn slopes. Pass memorials dedicated to climbers lost on Everest, a somber but powerful experience. Visiting the emotional memorials for the climbers passing through Thukla Pass, getting the view of surreal Mountains and ending the day and staying in nearby hotel and lidge
And the eighth day, our hike began alongside the Khumbu Glacier to reach the legendary Everest Base Camp. Along the trail, you pass the Indian Army Mountaineers’ memorials. Stand in the shadows of Everest and soak in the glory. This is the moment for hikers and trekkers to take out their banner and take a snap for memories. Return to Gorak Shep for the night.
And the ninth day, it’s the day when you finally reach your ultimate destination. Climb early to reach Kala Patthar for a jaw-dropping sunrise over Everest. It’s the highest point of your trek. This is the most overwhelming moment of this trek. Then descend to the warmer valley of Pheriche
Then the tenth day, retrace your steps through Pangboche and Tengboche. It will be an opportunity to see nuns perform their religious ceremonies at Tengboche Monastery. With the hard part behind, you’ll enjoy more relaxed walking and rich scenery. After crossing the bridge over the Dudh Koshi River, our trail continues through the Dudh Koshi gorge, passing rapidly through the pine forests before reaching Sansa. After passing a Chorten, we reach Namche Bazaar where we stay overnight.
The second-to-last day/the eleventh day, is the final trekking day, passing through rhododendron forests, Sherpa villages, and peaceful hillsides before reaching Lukla. This is a time to reflect on the unforgettable memories and all those overwhelming moments of your trek as a group and your achievement of your individual goals. A free afternoon allows you time to relax and have a proper rest.
The final day/the twelfth day, the return flight marks the end of your EBC trekking journey. You’ll be back in the capital with memories to last a lifetime.
