This 4 Days Short Trek to Poon Hill offers a specially designed itinerary for those who are short on time but still want to experience the unforgettable scenery and culture of the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. The trail, particularly the vantage point at Poon Hill (3210m), provides amazing views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Manaslu, Lamjung, Hiunchuli and Fishtail among others. Over the course of four days, you will pass through multiple Magar and Gurung villages, including Ghandruk. This opens up the opportunity to interact with the locals of the region and closely experience their lifestyle, culture and traditions. The trail also leads you through lush hills and pleasant forests, home to a variety of flora and fauna.
The Short Poon Hill Trek begins with a quick drive from Pokhara to Nayapul. From there, you will trek through Birethani, Hille and a number of other villages to reach Tikhedhunga, the stop for the first night. The next day, you’ll cross a few suspension bridges and climb a long stairway. The trail through the hills and bamboo forests takes you through Ulleri and Banthani, and you’ll eventually arrive at Ghorepani. Wake up early the next morning for a pre-dawn hike to Poon Hill. Poon Hill, the highlight of this trek, offers breathtaking sunrise views of most of the Annapurna region. Click some pictures there and head back to Ghorepani for breakfast. Afterwards, descend through Deorali and Tadapani up to the modern Gurung village of Ghandruk. Visit the Ghandruk Cultural Museum nearby, interact with the locals or simply enjoy the scenic views for the evening. On the final day, descend to Birethani and retrace your steps back to Nayapul. The Short Poon Hill Trek comes to a closure with a drive back to Pokhara.
The best times to attempt the Short Poon Hill trek are during spring (March - May) and autumn (September - November) seasons. The skies offer the clearest views during this time, the weather is stable and the temperature moderate, all leading to the best experience. As for the poon hill trek difficulty, this is a relatively short and easy trek with well-defined and well equipped trails. It is easy enough to be performed as a family trip, even with children!
Day 01: Drive to Nayapul and trek to Tikhedhunga (1440m), 4 hrs trek
Day 02: Trek to Ghorepani (2860m), 8 hrs trek
Day 03: Hike to Poonhill and trek to Ghandruk (1980m) via Tadapani (2630m), 7 hrs trek
Day 04: Trek to Nayapul and Drive to Pokhara, 4 hrs trek
Meet up with your group / trek guide at the designated hotel or gathering point. From there, the short Poon Hill trek starts will a quick drive from Pokhara to Nayapul. Have some lunch at Nayapul enjoying the view of various mountains in the backdrop. Then, the actual ‘trek’ begins as you head towards your first destination, Birenthani. Trek through pleasant forested paths and hills blooming with rhododendrons for a few hours. Pass the villages of Ramghai, Sudame and Hille on your way before eventually arriving at Tikhedhunga.
As there is much ground to cover today, head out Tikhedhunga after an early breakfast. Cross suspension bridges over the Tikhedhunga and Bhurungdi rivers to reach the stone stairway to Ulleri. Have your lunch and interact with the locals at the Magar village of Ulleri. Afterwards, resume on the trail through Banthani and Nangethani. After a few more hours of trekking, you’ll finally reach Ghorepani. It is possible to hike up to the ridge at Poon Hill to enjoy the sunset view. However, we recommend that you have patience and save the glorious views for the next morning instead. Rest early to prepare for the early morning hike tomorrow.
Wake up early and carefully hike up to Poon Hill. Once you’re there, witness the glorious panorama of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Nilgiri, Lamjung, Tukuche and Machhapuchhare among other peaks, glistening in the first rays of the morning sun. Spend some time there and click some memorable pictures. Then, descend back down to Ghorepani for breakfast at the lodge. After breakfast, begin the trek towards Tadapani. Pass through Deurali and trek through rhododendron and oak forests for a few more hours to eventually reach Tadapani. After lunch at Tadapani, resume on the trail along the cultivated fields and pleasant forests to finally reach Ghandruk. Spend the evening exploring the scenic Gurung village and interacting with the locals. Apart from the Ghandruk Cultural Museum nearby which you can explore, the village also offers fantastic views of and more.
Wake up to delightful views of Annapurna, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, Gangapurna and more at Ghandruk. After breakfast, head out for the last day of the trek. Trek for a few hours, passing through Chimrong and Birethani on your way, to eventually reach Nayapul. After lunch at Nayapul, catch a bus for a quick drive to Pokhara.
