Swayambhunath means “the Shrine Existing by itself”. The temple is often called the “The Monkey Temple” by travelers as there are numerous monkeys scampering around the place and playing around the stupa making it livable and interesting place.

Legend has it that Kathmandu valley used to be a huge lake and there was huge lotus flower with a white glow in the middle of the lake. Buddhists believe that Manjushree, a Bodhisattwa, came from China and cut the mountain to drain out the water and the lotus flower came to rest where the present stupa is existed now.

Kathmandu Durbar Square is an ancient royal palace of Nepal and it’s interior art is believed to date back to the 9/10 century, during the tenure of King Gunakama Dev – A true devotee of lord Kali (the goddess of destruction).

Another major attraction of Kathmandu Durbar Square Tour is the Living Goddess – The Kumari, a young girl who is worshiped as goddess after rigorous selection test. She acknowledges the greetings of visitors from her windows. The surrounding of temple complex dates back to 15th century to the 18th century.

Amazing Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing Tour
I did the standard tourist thing this trip.
I had limited time and so I made the choice to see the city again on a "standard" tour.. Surprisingly I was not disappointed. I have been five trips to Kathmandu and seeing the same sites is not boring.
