It's a wonderful place to spend a night with great views of the mountains, local people, local food and local culture.
Chhomrong is a village in the Annapurna area of Nepal, which is a popular overnight stop for those Annapurna Sanctuary trekkers. The village is spread over a hillside that has stunning views of the Annapurnas and Machhapuchhree. The early morning view from there is particularly beautiful. You can also experience the Himalayan lifestyle over there. You can find many shops selling trekking supplies and a dispensary that stocks various pills and potions.
Jhinu Danda is strategically positioned along popular trekking routes like the Annapurna Base Camp trek, making it a favored stopover for trekkers seeking to unwind. The village is perched on a hillside overlooking the Modi Khola River and offers panoramic views of Machapuchare and nearby snow-capped peaks.
Your journey begins with a scenic 1.5-hour drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, the traditional gateway to the Annapurna region. From here, the trail gently ascends through terraced farmlands and local villages until reaching Ghandruk, a beautiful Gurung settlement nestled in the foothills of the Annapurna range. Enjoy your first up-close views of Machapuchare (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli before settling in for the night.
Leaving Ghandruk behind, the trail descends slightly before climbing through dense rhododendron and oak forests. You'll cross suspension bridges and walk through peaceful valleys as you make your way to Chhomrong, a picturesque village perched on a hillside with panoramic views of the Annapurna massif. This is the last permanent settlement on the route to base camp and an ideal place to rest before heading deeper into the mountains.
Today’s path descends steeply down stone steps to the Chhomrong Khola, then climbs up through lush forests to reach Bamboo. The trail takes you through a serene and shaded bamboo grove, providing a refreshing change in scenery. The sound of waterfalls and chirping birds accompanies you as you gradually gain altitude, arriving at Bamboo in the afternoon.
As you continue your ascent, the trail leads through thick forest and along the Modi Khola river, passing small teahouses and waterfalls. Today involves more elevation gain, so you'll take it slow to properly acclimatize. The landscape begins to open up as you reach Deurali, offering dramatic views and a sense of being truly immersed in the high Himalayas.
This is the most exhilarating day of the trek. The trail climbs steadily to Machapuchare Base Camp, where you're greeted by towering views of Fishtail Peak. From there, the landscape transforms into a glacial amphitheater as you push on to Annapurna Base Camp. Surrounded by giants like Annapurna I, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli, reaching ABC is a breathtaking and unforgettable experience. Spend the night at base camp, watching the light play across the snow-capped peaks.
After an unforgettable sunrise at ABC, begin your descent back down the trail. Though you’re retracing your steps, the changing perspective offers new angles on the dramatic scenery. Descend past Machapuchare Base Camp and Deurali, eventually arriving back in Bamboo for a restful night.
Today’s trail ascends to Khuldighar and then descends sharply to Jhinu Danda, a cozy village known for its natural hot springs. After checking into your lodge, take a short walk down to the riverside to soak in the warm waters—perfect for easing sore muscles after days of trekking.
You’ll follow a quieter and less-traveled trail today as you head toward Landruk. This route is filled with charming village scenes, terraced fields, and sweeping valley views. Landruk is a peaceful village with fewer trekkers, making it an ideal place to unwind and reflect on your journey so far.
The final leg of the trek leads you downhill through lush forests and farmlands until you reach Nayapul. From there, a short drive brings you back to Pokhara, where you can enjoy the comforts of civilization again. Celebrate your accomplishment with a lakeside dinner and sunset views over Phewa Lake.
Use this day to relax, explore Pokhara’s cafés and lakeside markets, or take a well-deserved massage. This buffer day also allows some flexibility in case of delays during the trek. You’ve earned a day of peace and reflection after your Himalayan adventure!
