The flight from Kathmandu to Paro is one of the most spectacular of all mountain flight. Weather flying along the Himalayan range from Kathmandu or over the foothills, each flights offers stunning feats of gigantic Himalayans ranges. On arrival at airport, our airport representative will transfer you to the designated hotel in Thimpu, the modern capital of Bhutan.
Overnight in Thimpu
After breakfast, visit Trashichhoedzong, the beautiful medieval fortress/monastery which houses Government’s office and King’s Throne room. It is also the summer seat of Je Khenpo, the Chief Abbot. Then we visit National Library which has the collection of ancient Buddhist texts and manuscripts. After that we drive to Arts & Crafts school that houses fascinating Thangkha Paintings. Here we watch student making intricate design on cloth. Lake we visit Textile and Folk Heritage Museum where we explore Bhutanese culture and traditions.
After lunch, we visit Handicrafts Emporium that showcases array of beautifully hand-woven and crafted products. Then we drive to Memorial Chorten where the stupa was built in the memory of Bhutan’s Third King who is popularly regarded as the father of modern Bhutan. The paintings and statues of monuments portrays the deep Bhutanese Buddhist Philosophy. In late afternoon, drive to Punakha across Dochula Pass (3,080m).
Overnight in Punakha
After breakfast, we visit Punakha Dzong which was built strategically at the confluence of Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to serve as the religious and administrative hub of the region. This Dzong has significant role in Bhutan’s history. The Dzong was severely damaged by four catastrophic fire and an earthquake but now the Dzong is fully restored.
Then we drive to Wangdiphodrang where we visit Dzong and local market. The place is famous for its bamboo products, slate and stone carvings. After lunch, we drive to Paro via Dochula Pass. On the way we visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress which was built in 1627. It now houses the School for Buddhist studies.
Overnight in Paro
After breakfast, we make a trip to Taktsang Monastery which is one of the famous Bhutanese monasteries. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche flew here at the back of a tigress and medicated at this monastery hence it is called “Tiger’s Nest”. The trip to monastery takes about 5 hours for round trip. Afternoon visit Ta Dzong and the National Museum of the kingdom. It was built in 1967 as a watch tower and now it was converted to National Museum which is the great collection of art, artifacts, Thangkha paintings and Bhutan’s exquisite postage stamps. Then we hike back to visit Rinpung Dzong which offers long and fascinating history.
