When is the best time to trek Annapurna Circuit?

There are mainly two-time slots when the weather becomes stable and suitable for trekking in Annapurna Circuit. Usually, it implies every trekking destination in Nepal. Traditionally, the best time is called the “peak season” in Nepal. The best season lasts for two and a half months in autumn (Oct-Dec) and two to three months in spring (March-May).

Annapurna Circuit Trekking in Fall

Autumn’s peak season begins in October and concludes in mid-December. Most of my treks to the mountains were during this time. Fall is often regarded as the perfect season for Annapurna Circuit Trek in Nepal. The climate is pleasant, comfortable though unpredictable, and changeable. The temperature sometimes gets hot in lower elevations and mild at alpine elevations. The surrounding views are stunning and the skies are clear.

Annapurna Circuit Trekking in Spring

Spring is the 2nd best season for trekking in Annapurna circuit Trek. Spring is the time of color with wildflowers and rhododendron blooming all over the hills and the forested trails. The combination of fresh air with the sweet fragrance of wildflowers is refreshing. Skies are often clear with white clouds making the elusive images of the sky. Weather remains stable for a long time period. There are very few chances of snowfall and rainfall in the Annapurna region in Spring.

Winter is the coldest month in the Annapurna region. It falls in the month of December, January, February, and February. There are high chances of snowfall in the higher region making it difficult to walk. High passes become impassable due to snow. The Annapurna region is at its lowest temperature in the month of February. The lower hilly region on the other hand is mild. If you intend to trek Annapurna Circuit in winter, we suggest you pack all the necessary gears and check the availability of the teahouse at a higher elevation.

Annapurna Circuit Trekking in Summer

The month of June to August marks the monsoon in Nepal. The weather in the Annapurna circuit is quite hot and there is a high chance of heavy rainfall. Heavy rainfall in the mountain undeniably invites the threat of landslides and floods. However, the northern section of the Annapurna circuit experiences less rainfall as it falls in rain protected area of Nepal. The average rainfall of Pokhara is 3,474mm in monsoon. So if you are okay with rainfall in some sections of the trail, the monsoon won’t bother your adventure.
