What are the best times to travel in Nepal?

Nepal is a year-round travel destination. Regardless of when you visit, there is always a place that is worth exploring. However, the best times to explore Nepal are spring (April – May) and autumn (September – October), when the weather is mostly stable and clear.

Visiting Nepal in spring (April – May) – Cool/Warm and Fresh

Introduction: Spring season is overall delightful in Nepal. These month are quite warm and you have long hours to walk around the hills. However, night gets bit chilly so pack your warm clothes.  It can windy and you can expect occasional rainfalls on lowlands. Highlights: The melting snow feds the waterfalls everywhere and together with the blooming flowers and people – Spring is quite remarkable in Nepal. Nature will be virtually exploding all around you – trees and flowers are waking to like and blooming rhododendron flowers offers remarkable sight. Lowlights: Crowded trails Where to Visit: Everest Region, Annapurna Region, Langtang Region and Manaslu Region What to Pack: Warm Down Jacket, Windproof and Rainproof Jacket, Hiking Trouser, Shorts, Running Shoes and more Note: Make the reservation of flights and accommodation in advance; as it is the second best season to trek Nepal.

Visiting Nepal in Summer (June – August) – Rain and Hot

Introduction: Summer is the most loved and hottest time of the year. It is best season for vacations, swimming and sunbathing.  From mid-June, it starts to get rain 1 – 2 hours a day, also clearing away the dust. The average temperature in Kathmandu is 63 – 84 0F. The rain fall is expected – 129 – 239 mm. Highlights: Summer is a real boon for keen botanist and wildlife enthusiast; with lush vegetation and greenery Lowlights: High threat of floods, landslide, leeches and slippery trail Where to Trek: Trek in Rain Protected Region – Upper Dolpo Trek, Upper Mustang. What to Pack: Warm Jacket, Rain Proof Duffle Bag, Rain Proof Jacket and Trouser Visiting in Autumn (September – November) – Cool and Clear Introduction: Autumn is a great time to travel, no matter where you intend to go. The air is crisp, landscapes are dramatic and weather is at its best. It is said that that “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall”. Highlights: Clear Views and comfortable weather for long days trekking Lowlights: Highly trafficked trail Where to Trek: Everest Region, Annapurna Region, Langtang Region, Manaslu Region etc. What to Pack: Pack warm cloths as the nights and mornings gets quite chilly in autumn Note: Book the flights and accommodation in advance Visiting Nepal in winter (December – February) – Cold/Windy Introduction: The months of December to February marks as winter in Nepal. Winter is cloudy, foggy and extremely cold. Some of the high passes on trekking routes gets closed. Although the weather is cold, you can save your wallet on food, accommodation, flight and entry tickets and you can avoid the crowds. If you are not content with chilly weather, south Nepal and low hills have warm places, such as Chitwan, Lumbini, Kathmandu, Pokhara etc. Highlights: Mountains are at its best attire in winter and you can enjoy lonely time with nature Lowlight: Extremely cold temperature and snowy trails. Teahouse at high elevation remains closed Where to Trek: Ghandruk Trek, Chisapani Nagarkot Trek, Namobuddha Trek etc. What to Pack: Pack warm down jacket, thick water and wind proof pants, woolen hats and gloves. You also need a mask/Scarf to cover your face on chilly winds, snow glasses to protect your eyes and snow boots or crampons.
