There are two base camps for Annapurna: the northern and the southern. One of the most well-known trekking destinations in Nepal is the national park of the same name, where Annapurna South Base Camp is situated. More than 100,000 tourists from around the world visit the park annually! The majestic Annapurna mountain range, which comprises 1 eight-thousander and 13 seven-thousand, attracts tourists with its breathtaking landscape. The national park is also home to the deepest gorge in the world, numerous high mountain lakes, and incredible biodiversity (over 160 species of animals and almost 500 species of birds). The so-called "Annapurna Sanctuary" is one of the national park's most distinctive and stunning locations. The renowned Annapurna South Base Camp is located here! Only a tiny corridor between Machapuchare and Hinchuli provides access to it. Because of this, this location was only found by Europeans in 1956, following the first ascent of Everest. The southern base camp now consists of a few teahouses from which you may take in the amazing view of the neighbouring mountain range. Dawn is the best time to view the panorama since the sun's rays slowly drop down Annapurna's southern wall, illuminating it more and more with each passing minute.

The French expedition led by Maurice Herzog, who later accomplished the first-ever successful ascent of the eight-thousanders, used the Annapurna North Base Camp for the first time in 1950. The camp is situated in a region devoid of settlements, inns, or signposts on the mountain's northern flank. Its surroundings are equally as picturesque as those on the south side. Expeditions to Annapurna that follow the traditional route start near the base of the northern camp.

Altitude sickness is a condition caused on by climbing to a high altitude and is characterized by nausea, tiredness, and hyperventilation. Acute Mountain Sickness, also known as AMS or altitude sickness, is by far the biggest danger to anyone trekking in Nepal on the higher (above about 3000m+) routes. Nearly everyone who hikes above 3000 meters will have relatively minor symptoms like headache, nausea, fatigue, and dizziness. It is not impossible to deal with altitude sickness if you follow the below prevention.

slow speed

People striving to complete their adventure as quickly as possible are a big contributor to altitude sickness. When it comes to such journeys, people often disobey the rules and exaggerate their talents. Such a quick pace does not provide the body enough time or energy to adjust to the decreasing oxygen levels.

Take your time, is the piece of advice that every trekker, guide, and doctor would give you. Establish a leisurely rhythm, take appropriate breaks, and breathe normally. There is no rush because a porter or trekking guide will always stay behind to help you finish your excursion. Just keep in mind that reaching base camp and making it back safely are more vital objectives.

Stay hydrated

The body loses a lot of water and energy from the long hours of walking combined with the stresses of the high altitude. The body may be more sensitive to altitude sickness due to the weakening. It is advised that hikers consume up to 5 liters of water every day to keep their bodies functioning normally. Water comes both before and after food. The water then returns after that. You really need to increase your water consumption. When it's warm and you're perspiring, this is much simpler, but you still need to exercise restraint. Leave the alcohol till after the journey since you are walking and not going out to party. Alcohol induces AMS for reasons other than the fact that it causes dehydration.

Train

Everyone, regardless of age, health, or physical condition, can get altitude sickness. Even the same person could experience the same walk in a different way. However, many trekkers claim to have less pain than those with no prior training or expertise. To familiarize yourself with trekking methods and give your body time to adjust to the thin air, it is a good idea to go around your neighbourhood's hills and mountains. Trek at high altitudes in your hometown (3000 m) to help your body get used to the thinner air at base camp, 5364 m. Walk a lot and attempt to gain some height if you can. Exercise for roughly 3 to 6 hours each week while carrying a 10kg backpack to represent a typical day in the Himalayas.

Travel Protection

Although it doesn't stop you from getting altitude sickness, it is crucial in case you require medical attention. Check to see if you are protected by your insurance company while traveling and at high altitudes. When you want to go to high-altitude locations, insurance carriers typically need you to upgrade.

Eat more food

Consume as much food as you can. Even if you don't like what you see on your plate, never miss a meal in a teahouse. Your body is exerting a lot of effort, therefore it requires a lot of carbohydrates to go the extra distance and be able to endure higher altitudes. Put your diet on hold and purchase that extra candy bar. Trekking is a strenuous effort that easily results in daily calorie expenditures of over 4,000. Refill; your body will thank you.

Use pulse oximetry

The symptoms of altitude sickness can also be recognized with handheld pulse oximeters. It can be used to confirm the signs of altitude sickness even if the readings and results might not be precise because of changes in breathing patterns.

On the next day early in the morning, we will explore the Hindu and Buddhist religious site which is listed in world heritage site including Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, Pashupatinath, and many more.

Pokhara is only a short flight away from Kathmandu. You will also be welcomed by stunning vistas of numerous notable mountain peaks, including Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machhapuchhre, and the numerous mountain peaks of the Annapurna range, when you reach Pokhara. Pokhara is a renowned tourist destination in Nepal. Its fame is well-deserved because it is a stunning city situated next to the blue Phewa Lake. The lake is well-known for reflecting the Machhapuchhre Mountain's appearance on its surface.

Early in the morning, we pass a pasture and ascend to a crest. Then, after crossing a suspension bridge over the Kimrong Khola, we descend into a lush valley. We leave the valley after lunch and make our way to Chhomrong over a path covered in rhododendron and oak trees.

After overnighting in bamboo, the route takes us through a chilly and damp bamboo forest before gradually climbing with some difficult sections. Following the Himalayan Hotel, the forest opens out, allowing us to take in the sun and magnificent views of the glacier below. In order to go to Hinku Cave, we must trek up a steep slope through a much drier forest. The path now descends to the river and then gradually ascends to the village of Deurali. In a lodge for the night in Deurali.

Early in the morning, we begin our trek after breakfast with a gradual ascent via a riverbed before joining a steep track that leads to the mountainside. We hike from Bagar to Machhapuchhre Base Camp via a difficult path, but the breathtaking scenery makes it worthwhile. We get a close-up view of Machhapuchhre (fishtail peak), Mt. Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Annapurna III, Gandharvachuli, and Gangapurna from Machhapuchhre Base Camp. It is a very fulfilling experience. As we approach the Annapurna sanctuary, the foliage begins to diminish on the road to Annapurna Base Camp, and the trail begins to widen. From here, we get a fantastic view of Annapurna's nearly vertical south face towering above us. The Annapurna refuge offers a magnificent 360-degree view.

Day 8 is the most anticipated day of the journey because you'll take one of the most incredible helicopter rides ever to return to Pokhara from the Annapurna base camp. Inspiring delight and excitement is the helicopter's aerial view of the mountain peaks. When you glance below, you can see how drastically the environment has changed from the snowy high alpine lands to the verdant hills, terrace farms, and woodlands. Wild goat herds are occasionally visible from above, moving in a group below. When viewed from above, the stunning scenery of the Annapurna region does not disappoint.

This is the last day of your trip. You will be met at the airport by our agent, who will then drive you to the hotel. Take a complete pause to unwind and recharge. Wander around Thamel, a lively city, in the evening to buy souvenirs. Additionally, go to the goodbye supper prepared by Nepal Horizon Treks & Expedition in a typical Nepali eatery to commemorate the successful end of the journey.
